Starting your own business is usually associated with high income, the development of both yourself and your career, and being free – after all, you are the boss yourself, right? Of course, very often expectations are in line with reality. However, there are times when an entrepreneur is forced to suspend his business. There can be many reasons – from the obvious, such as loss of financial liquidity or demand for services, through childcare, and ending with illness. In such a situation, the suspension of business activity may be a favorable solution. What is it, what conditions must be met, and how to do it? You can read about this and other aspects in the article below.

How to suspend your business activity?

First of all, it is worth knowing that there is no specific time when you can suspend your business. You can do it on any date and time you choose. This process is carried out in the city hall or municipal office. One option is to go there in person, but in the age of a pandemic and the development of the Internet, there are other ways to do it.

People who prefer the “traditional” form can use postal services and send such a request by letter. In this case, you need the signature of the person suspending the activity confirmed by a notary.

The situation is similar in the case of using the help of a proxy. Here, too, you will need both the applicant’s signature and confirmation by a notary public.

The last and the latest form is electronic submission. The easiest way to do it is via the CEIDG website (Central Register and Information on Economic Activity) or on the government website biznes.gov.pl. In both cases, you need a Trusted Profile or a qualified signature.

For how long can you suspend your business activity?

There is no specific time period for which the entrepreneur can suspend the business activity as much as possible. The only rule applies to the minimum period of 30 days. In addition, the activity is suspended for a definite period, when the entrepreneur indicates the date of resumption of activity, as well as indefinitely. However, this does not apply to companies registered in the National Court Register. Such companies may be suspended for a maximum of 2 years.

Consequences of business activity suspension

Although the seemingly no obligation to pay insurance fees may seem to be a positive aspect of the suspension of operations, it has consequences, including loss of multiple insurances. In this case, you can choose to take two steps. The first is self-insurance under voluntary health insurance. The second is to “sign up” to members of your family.

Moreover, the entrepreneur suspending the activity must take into account that the period of suspension is not included in the period of work.

As you can see, the suspension of business activity is not a particularly complicated process (especially compared to other matters handled by Polish offices). Nowadays, you can do it 100% digitally without even leaving your home for a moment!
